Global Youth Summit 2011
In November 2011, the sixth Global Youth Summit took place in the UK, bringing together social entrepreneurs, community activists and volunteers aged 16-19 from around the world. During the summit, the new Changemakers exchanged best practices and developing action plans for projects that tackle issues ranging from AIDS/HIV and corruption to education and human rights.

To answer a couple of questions posted here:
@demson: The Global Changemakers programme covers participation fees (including travel, accommodation, visa costs etc.) for all selected participants.
@parulbehl: Our global youth summits are aimed at Changemakers aged 16-19. We also organise regional youth summits; for these we work with participants aged 18-24. We cannot at present announce a regional youth summit for 2011, but we’re working on it. Any announcements will be made on http://www.global-changemakers.net as well as on Facebook and Twitter.
Sir, how much is the participation fees exactly?
Plus please provide the link on which we can apply and what is the last date for submission.

I mean I find this such a wonderful opportunity alas I am 22!!!
@Amit Ashween Chand: you may be interested in the upcoming Asia Youth Summit (http://www.global-changemakers.net/asia-youth-summit-2011-application-page), as the age range for that event is 18-24.

I am 23 years old and I come from Egypt, how can I join Global Changemakers activities ?
Hi Mohamed, The Global Changemakers Programme will be organising another summit towards the end of the year in the UK. It is know as the Global Youth Summit and you would be allowed to apply. We will post messages on Facebook and on our website when applications open. So watch this space!
Wow, thank you so much for this info. Actually, I didn’t make it for Asia Youth Summit since the deadline is the day before my National Exam, it’s kinda hard to manage the video application.
)
I’m gonna try my best for this GYS 2011, Matt
hats-off to the British Council for arranging such an event…
Dear ChangeMakers,
I’m ElHussein Anas 18 years old from Alexandria, Egypt.
How can I apply for this Event? I’m really waiting for it!
Best Regards,
Dear ElHussein Anas: the call for applications for this summit will go up in July or August. Visit frequently for updates!
Hi, I’m Brazilian and i’m 24 years old. I’m really interested to be a global changemaker but soon i’m getting 25! Are there any up comming summits that i can participate? I’ll be 25 on september… =(
I hear regional summit… Great can not wait… Youth empowerment for change my delight.
Will application include the video again?
)
Yes, although we very much recommend that people don’t submit the exact same video.
Is the video quality important ? ( if there is everything okay with audio )
When it comes to application videos, the video quality is secondary (as long as we can make out what’s being filmed
) – it’s the audio quality that’s more important, but again, as long as we can understand what’s being said that’s the main thing. Microphones are usually what is the worst quality about mobile phones, webcams and other video cameras, but as long as the video’s recorded in a relatively quiet room it’s fine.
Ok, thank you
wooow coool,i will do my best to attndnce this wonderfuul event..
can’t wait till the application form openn..
I will be just a few days older than 19 in November >.< Is it still possible for me to apply for this event? I was unable to go for the Asia Youth Summit due to inconvenient timing. =(
I’m afraid that the age range for the summit isn’t flexible. However, there will be future opportunities for 18-24 year old Changemakers.

Friends, Matt mentioned, that “The call for applications will go up in July or August. Keep visiting the website for updates!”.
Hello all. I’m new here and i’m eager to start as soon as possible. Is the summit available for all countries, since i’m from Bosnia and Hercegovina, or..?
And what kind of a video is required for the application ?
Hi Maya,
We’ll be accepting applications from everyone aged 16-19, regardless of where they live or where they’re from.
The call for applications will go live in early July (more info on that soon!). The 2-minute application video should cover your work in the community and your ambitions beyond the summit. More information will follow as soon as the call for applications has gone live.
You might find some application videos on YouTube – these may give you an idea of how other people did their application.
i am form pakistan. what process i can do,
Hello everyone! I wonder what level of English to be selected, and how the selection process?
You need to be able to communicate confidently and clearly in English. If that is the case, it doesn’t matter whether your English is relatively basic or if you make mistakes. The Changemakers that have taken part in our summits have had widely varying levels of English, but they all needed to be able to use the language to communicate their ideas and ideals.
Participants submit a written application and a two-minute video (instructions will be provided when the call for applications goes live on 4 July). Each valid application is then judged by members of the Global Changemakers team, local British Council staff and Changemakers from earlier summits according to three criteria: track record, communication skills and motivation. After the first round of evaluations, Changemakers organise short interviews with the shortlisted candidates, at the end of which we select the 60 participants according to their applications but making adjustments so we have a good geographic, gender and issues balance.
Thank you Matt_BC!
Hello. Im new here, so i wanted to ask about this summit. I want to try this and i dont know how to get the application stuff. So in June, we shoukd be online for applications right???
And what kind of questions we should talk about in our 2 minute video??
Thanks
i ment July:)
@Dilnoza: You’re correct. On 4 July the application form will go online and you’ll be able to submit the two-minute videos (usually on Facebook, exceptionally via file-sharing).
The video should be about your experience as a social entrepreneur, community activist or volunteer and it should address your ambitions and plans on how you want to take your work to the next level. There will be more detailed instructions come 4 July.
This is very interest!!! How important to be a world positive changing agent!!!
Get changed to be able to change others. Waiting forward for the application call on the 4th. Thank you all for standing for a cause.
hey!! matt im very excited about the application process and the entire event .However i have a question with regard to the part that says that the previous changemakers will help out in the selection process. what if the changemakers earlier and the prospective one are nemesis or family nemesis wouldn’t that cloud that decission or probably lead to biased decission . Its nothing personal just a query if u don’t mind answering.
@lucyfibi: That sort of thing may happen, but it’s unlikely. We trust the Changemakers we ask to help with the selection to be as impartial and objective as possible. Also, every step of the selection process is based on multiple evaluations, so even if one of them is bad, the others can make up for that. Hope that helps!
thank you so much for the reply , i might have come across very weird, i apologize if the query was not as conventional as should have been. Also i have another question if u do not mind , will we be less likely to be selected if we haven’t actually worked in affiliation to any british council projects despite being involved in many others ?
We’ve had Changemakers before who’d been involved in other British Council projects (e.g. Climate Champions, Dreams & Teams) – it doesn’t improve your chances nor does it lessen them.
Does the content of the written piece have to be the same with the one in the video? Thank you so much. I am really interested to apply.
The basic content is more or less the same; you can obviously put more detail in the written application, though, so the video works as a sort of extended ‘elevator pitch’. It’s about showing us in a relatively short time why you would be a good Global Changemaker – tell us about what you’ve already done and what you’re planning to do once you’ve been to the summit. It’s basically about convincing us that you’ve got an interesting track record, are motivated and are willing and able to take your work in the community to the next level.
Hello,
I would like please to know how to find the application, because nobody sent me anything and if someone could please show me the official page on Facebook of the Global Youth Summit 2011 ?
Thank you in advance
@Imane Bentaher: You’ll find the application details on this page: http://www.global-changemakers.net/uncategorized/global-youth-summit-2011-call-for-applications. Let me know if you have any other questions!
live application? i am going to do my best to attend this one because i missed the previous one.
we are each of us angels who can only fly by embracing each other
global change makers? lets embrace and we bring about a positive change in our in our respective communities
Hi Matt
I will be attending the AYS on 17th june in delhi…. the application for the global youth summit requires me not to have taken part in any previous global change makers summits… so will the AYS count?? or if i want to attend, do i have to apply as a facilitator??
@Nasheetha: Exactly – once you’ve taken part in a summit, you can only attend another one if you’re selected as a peer facilitator. However, please note that we usually want to see how a Changemaker ‘performs’, i.e. how actively they involve themselves in follow-up and project work, before they’re selected as a peer facilitator. The people attending the Asia Youth Summit will have a much better chance of being selected as a facilitator at summits beyond this year’s Global Youth Summit.
Hello everyone! I’m very excited and intrigued by this summit … its ideals and aspirations have really encouraged me to think about applying because once selected I hope to use the skills acquired to enhance and expand my work in the volunteering and activism field. However, I was wondering, if the video goes slightly over 2 minutes would that be a problem? and you also spoke of a written application? I haven’t gone through the full process as I still haven’t been able to organize my thoughts for the video but is the application form counted as the written application? or Do we actually have to write an essay on ourselves … additionally, what areas should the video cover because two minutes cannot really give an accurate feel for a person’s dedication, motivation and commitment to such important issues. Thanks! Can’t wait to hear from you!
@Christopher Morgan: If your video goes over by a couple of seconds, that’s okay. If it’s 2 1/2 minutes or longer, I’d strongly suggest that you make it shorter. And yes, the application form is written application.
We’ve been doing the application videos for several years now, and we find that a well delivered two-minute video can express a lot about a person’s dedication, motivation and commitment – it’s all about focusing on the essential. Others have managed before, so I’m sure you will too.
=( I cant apply case I am 23 years old!! =( but thanks !!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!
Good afternoon. I’m an activist of Russian Regional Public Organization “Tabula Rasa”. We’ re engaged in increasing social and political activity of youth, make and implement different social projects. We’d ungrudgingly represent our Organization together with another member of it, as a delegation. Could you please tell us if there’s any form of collective application or something like that?
Thank you.
@Anna Filina: We can only accept applications by individuals.
matt_bc please give me your email address i will send you my video link thx
You can send it to info@global-changemakers.net. (You’ll also find my regular work address in the YouTube instruction document.)

))
ok did anyone of u from nepal get selected ??? and @matt_bc is there any chance that those who got rejected can get in ? sth like a waiting list cuss the selected one couldnt make it due to some reason ?i am so heartbroken , only i can tell .
@lucyfibi: We’ve selected two Nepalese candidates. As far as your question on a waiting list is concerned: if any of the selected participants drop out now, we may try to replace them with other candidates from the region who did similarly well in the evaluation round. However, this is decided on a case-by-case basis.
