Changemaker: Felix Mburu Njoroge

Country of implementation: Kenya

Medical students in Kenya often rely on foreign educational resources that do not reflect the country’s healthcare realities. To address this, Felix and a group of fellow Kenyan medical students launched XYZEDIZEDI MED, a student-led initiative aimed at making medical education relatable and accessible to Kenyan learners and the public.

XYZEDIZEDI MED was founded in 2024 and has grown into a national community of over 50 medical students from 7 universities across Kenya. The initiative empowers students to co-create learning tools that reflect the country's sociocultural and clinical context. These include medical illustrations, case simulations, a podcast, comics, blog posts, and interactive quizzes.

The project has also introduced collaborative activities such as workshops, peer learning events, and storytelling competitions to inspire innovative thinking and cross-campus connection. Participants gain experience in content creation, public engagement, and digital storytelling while contributing to healthcare education reform.

XYZEDIZEDI MED is organized into seven departments- Academics, Research, Medical Illustration, Digital Storytelling, Healthcare Data Science, Medical Blogging, and Events Planning- to ensure a well-rounded approach to content development and outreach. The initiative is currently working on its flagship project: a Kenyan Medical Atlas, a digital platform featuring localized visuals and simulations for learners and professionals alike.

So far, XYZEDIZEDI MED has engaged over 1000 students and healthcare workers and continues to grow through partnerships, events, and digital outreach. For more information, visit: https://linktr.ee/xyzedizedimed
