Preshh BlossomGirls Reusable Pad Project is addressing the challenge of period poverty among girls in underserved communities in Nigeria. Many girls cannot afford sanitary pads and resort to unsafe alternatives such as leaves, which affects their health and school attendance. To change this, the Preshh BlossomGirls team, led by passionate youth advocates, decided to organize workshops to teach girls how to make reusable sanitary pads and provide menstrual hygiene education.
The project took place from September to November 2025 in selected communities where period poverty is most severe. Girls aged 10–18 participated in hands-on pad-making workshops combined with sessions on menstrual health, hygiene management, and breaking taboos around menstruation.
The project created a supportive environment where girls could gain practical skills, increase their confidence, and connect with peers facing similar challenges. Peer mentors were trained to continue raising awareness and supporting others in their communities.
Preshh BlossomGirls partnered with local schools, community leaders, and health organizations to reach 50 girls in the initial phase, with plans to expand further in second phase. The project has already led to improved school attendance and empowerment among participants.
