Changemaker: Adefioye Michael
Country of implementation: Nigeria
In Odeda community, Ogun State, Nigeria, young people and farmers face a pressing need for environmental awareness, basic educational resources, and land degradation. To tackle this, The Green Genius Project was created by Michael Adefioye and his team of youth environmental leaders to blend eco-literacy, recycling, creativity, and educational support into one powerful initiative.
The project is being implemented in three secondary schools and will engage at least 120 students aged 7–17 between September and December 2025. Through a hands-on approach, the project aims to help young people understand the environmental challenges around them and how they can be part of the solution.
Activities include:
-A Green Quiz competition to inspire friendly learning and showcase knowledge
Green skill acquisition and waste-to-art workshops to promote creativity and sustainability
-A plastic-for-supplies recycling exchange, where students receive school materials and sanitary pads in return for collected waste
-A waste monetization scheme to provide 50% tuition support to 5-10 underprivileged students
With support from teachers, local recyclers, and volunteers, The GreenGenius Project empowers students to take-action for the planet, while reinforcing the message that waste can be a resource, and education can be a right for all.
