Country of implementation: South Africa
In South Africa, many students in Grades 8–12 struggle with technical subjects like mathematics and science due to language barriers. These challenges lead to poor academic performance and limit opportunities for further education and employment. Recognizing this issue, Funda was launched as an innovative ed-tech initiative aimed at bridging this gap. The program provides educational resources that teach complex concepts in students' native languages, allowing them to grasp fundamental ideas before transitioning to English for assessments.
Funda's unique approach ensures students understand key subjects, boosting their confidence and improving their academic performance. In 2023, the program had a tremendous impact, reaching over 900,000 views and supporting more than 20,000 students across South Africa. These learners, from diverse backgrounds, gained the skills needed to excel academically and pursue tertiary education.
The initiative offers a range of engaging learning tools, including interactive video lessons, exercises, and assessments, all designed to enhance comprehension through language accessibility. By focusing on inclusivity, Funda has empowered thousands of students, helping them envision brighter futures in higher education and the workforce. For more information, visit Funda's website.
