Afro-descendant, indigenous, refugee, and stateless youth often lack opportunities to connect and discuss ways to enhance their local communities. To address this, a group of experts in space technologies and community advocates have launched a project aimed at equipping these young people with the skills needed to improve their surroundings. The Black Panthers project seeks to empower marginalized communities by leveraging space technologies for community development. The initiative will offer workshops on programming, electronics, and satellite usage, alongside resilience training for natural disasters and community-led projects focusing on water resource management and sustainable agriculture.
In addition to technical training, the project will organize awareness-raising events, including lectures, roundtable discussions, and workshops, to emphasize the vital role of space technologies in fostering community development. By combining education and technology, the Black Panthers project aims to create lasting positive impacts on underserved communities.
