"Achinyamata for Mental Health" is a youth-led program under Rugare Mental Health Organization aimed at increasing mental health literacy among secondary school students in Malawi. This educational initiative aims to empower secondary school students with knowledge, skills, and supportive environments to understand and address mental health challenges. By prioritizing mental health education, the project seeks to foster informed, empathetic, and proactive school communities. The program will deliver structured learning through student-led mental health clubs, train student ambassadors and teachers as advocates, and promote open dialogue to reduce stigma. The focus on education will equip students with practical tools to recognize, discuss, and manage mental health issues, creating a ripple effect across schools and communities.

By using schools as a platform, this project directly supports SDG4, ensuring inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all. Mental health is essential for learning, focus, attendance, and performance. When students understand how to take care of their mental well-being, they are more likely to stay in school and succeed academically. These early lessons will help them grow into adults who not only prioritize their own mental wellbeing but also support others and challenge harmful stereotypes, these clubs will provide accurate information, lead discussions, and create safe spaces where mental health is treated with care and respect.
