Sakhi is tackling India's maternal health crisis through a WhatsApp-based platform that delivers personalized healthcare information to expectant mothers in their native languages. Our current project will implement this life-saving intervention for 150 pregnant women in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, where 9 out of 10 women lack adequate health literacy.
Working with Aadhar Bahuddeshiya Sanstha, our solution addresses the broken information loop between healthcare providers and mothers. The Sakhi chatbot sends pregnancy stage-specific reminders for antenatal checkups, answers health questions, and connects women to government schemes worth ₹10,800 ($120) each. For these 150 women, this represents financial support and potentially life-saving knowledge at critical moments.
Alongside the chatbot, we're training 8 local ASHA workers to use our digital system, which will transform how they monitor pregnancies and prioritize care for high-risk cases. Our analytics dashboard gives the NGO real-time insights into maternal health trends across these 150 women, enabling timely interventions when complications arise.
What makes this project unique is our human-centered approach. We're conducting monthly micro-feedback calls with mothers to continuously improve the platform, while our "Super Mom" recognition program builds community leadership among participants. Our pre- and post-intervention surveys will measure concrete changes in health literacy and care-seeking behavior.
By focusing intensively on these 150 women, we'll generate compelling evidence of Sakhi's impact – proving that accessible, personalized health information can transform maternal care in rural India's most underserved communities.
