Young people in Black communities in Colombia face limited opportunities for access to higher education and personal development tools. "Ruta de Empoderamiento Educativo para Comunidades Negras: Fortaleciendo Acciones Afirmativas" was devised to address this by putting together in-person and virtual meetings that will provide young people with the skills and knowledge needed to improve their educational and life prospects.
The Ruta de Empoderamiento will take place from August to October 2024 in the departments of Caquetá and Guaviare. Participants will be Afro-Colombian youth interested in educational and community development. The program will offer a network of information on educational opportunities and available support, including the benefits of the Educational Credit Fund for Black Communities (FECECN). During the program, activities such as virtual socializations, in-person meetings, and life project development workshops will be conducted.
Additionally, multimedia content will be created with testimonials from beneficiaries to promote the available opportunities. The goal will be to involve 30 young people from both regions. The Afro-Colombian Foundation FUNAMU and the Association of Afro-Colombian Youth of Guaviare (ASOJAGU) will support the costs of accommodation and food. At the Latam Summit 2024 of Global Changemakers, Yissely will seek the support of mentors who can virtually assist during sessions, motivating young people and providing testimonials about the transformative impact of education.
