Changemaker: Constance Ufuoma Edesiri

Country of implementation: Nigeria

In Benue State, Nigeria, over 88 million people live in extreme poverty, facing barriers such as unemployment, lack of skills, financial exclusion, and limited access to healthcare. To break the cycle of poverty, Constance and her team decided to launch the Pathway to Prosperity Initiative, aiming to empower vulnerable households with the tools and resources necessary for long-term financial independence. PPI-25 will be piloted in rural areas of Benue State, where poverty rates are high, and economic opportunities are limited. The initiative targets 5 households, impacting over 50 individuals, and focuses on providing:

  • Vocational training in agriculture, tailoring, craft-making, and small business management.

  • Start-up resources such as livestock, farming tools, sewing machines, craft materials, and small business capital.

  • Financial inclusion through the creation of savings groups and access to micro-loans.

  • Mentorship to ensure holistic support for the participants

Through these activities, PPI-25 aims to create sustainable livelihoods and help participants transition from extreme poverty to economic self-sufficiency. The project integrates various elements: hands-on training, resource distribution, financial literacy, and mentorship, creating an interactive and supportive environment where beneficiaries can thrive. PPI-25 will run from May to July 2025, and we aim to generate long-term impact by empowering vulnerable households to create their own opportunities for economic growth.
