AGROFORESTRY

Changemaker: Kudzai Dakwa

Country of Implementation: Zimbabwe

If they are well-trained, youths in Zimbabwe are the hope for the restoration of lost forests. Youths make up 67% of the whole Zimbabwean population. An initial phase of the tree-planting has been initiated in Neshuro, with room for expansion of the project. The project involves 46 children at Neshuro, 10 caregivers, 5 Agricultural extension workers and officers, 5 members of the Masvingo Association of Residential Care Facilities Trust, and around 500 members of the community. The project hopes to expand from 50 to 500 trees at Neshuro Baptist Children's Home. The other phase of the project will focus on Mwenezi Children’s Home with a target of planting 500 trees. The main focus of the project will be on conversation, nutrition, energy, timber for construction, and beekeeping.
