Changemaker: Valeria Moncada
Country of Implementation: El Salvador
El Salvador is a conservative country with a stigmatized society that talks about menstruation with a shameful connotation, which has affected their school ́s curricula because it’s very limited when it talks about menstruation. GCM Valeria Moncada decided to create MenstruActua, a project that leads workshops in communities and public schools to properly educate both girls and boys about menstrual cycles. These workshops are a safe place where everyone can share their experiences, and an excellent opportunity to replace myths for facts and start destigmatizing the Salvadoran society. In these workshops menstrual cups and reusable pads are distributed in order to improve girls' menstrual health and raise awareness on the importance and benefits of using reusable and sustainable products.
