Traveller’s blog no 7 - Michael
10th March 2008
Exactly 18 years ago in the middle of Hong Kong, then the colony of the United Kingdom, in Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, cries were heard from a new-born baby, who was later named Michael Lok Hui Yin.
18 years later this baby is no longer a baby (obviously) and has turned into a (mature?) young adult. This year is his final year at Island School and next year, he will be moving on to another crucial stage of his life and he will certainly miss all those who have been such great friends over the past 18 years.
2007 has been a very special (yet tiring) year – e.g. head boy, university app., Road To Davos – and to be honest, Michael has enjoyed doing all this a lot and much credits go to YOU who has contributed so much to his life and he really appreciates it
Anyway I will stop writing in third person form now – a bit annoying really.
Ok – anyhow, thanks everyone who has said HAPPY BIRTHDAY and to everyone – from friends who I’ve known for 10 years + those who Ive only befriended with a year ago + those who I’ve only met several months back in Road To Davos - I LOVE YOU ALL and it’s been my honour to have friends like you – Please keep in touch in spite of where we are – seas, mountains and borders shall not separate friendships.
At the moment – I am working on a Forum for Sixth Form students from six Secondary Schools in Hong Kong regarding ‘Student Voice’ and Student Leadership and you can find out more details about it here. I really hope that this would work out well and I am applying A LOT of skills that I’ve learnt from Road To Davos. After that, unfortunately I’ll have to retire temporarily as an activist as (luckily?) I’ve got exams coming in a few months’ time ? Having said that however, emails and msn conversations with you guys are much welcome so please don’t worry about disturbing me haha!
I really hope to meet you guys soon – whether individually or as a group reunion event. I have been thinking and missing everyone of you since I got back from Guildford. I’ve loved talking to you all and I hope to continue doing so in the future. I am now planning on going on some sort of a "Europe Trip" with several others and hopefully I get to meet some of you then, if not earlier!
Anyways – enough of me talking really – have an excellent life in wherever you are and whatever you are doing. If you happen to come to Hong Kong at any point – you know who to find!
Best regards from your very MICHAEL LOK
P.S. As you are probably aware – I kept a blog during the forum – http://michaellokhk.blogspot.com/ – I still update this about once a month to record what I’ve been up to regarding my activism.
Also – do add me on the following if you haven’t already done so.
