Team Tuesday (8/6/2010)
Greetings from sunny Bern, Switzerland! (Well, it’s sunny now – give us a couple of days, though, and it’ll probably be grey, dreary and rainy. At least that means there’s less of a risk of Matt catching too much sun!)
Things at the office are okay, although there’s lots to do – we’re all busy going through the applications for the Latin America Youth Summit. We’ve received a grand total of 766 applications – and that’s not including the 87 applications we’ve had for the ten positions as peer facilitators! So, lots of video watching on the schedule for this week… (By the way, if you want to be amused by the abilities of modern technology, watch a YouTube video, activate Close Captioning (it’s the CC button) and then switch on the “Transcribe Audio” feature. It’s okay if you don’t understand computers all that well, because this new feature reveals that they don’t understand us any better!)
Some other news:
- Fran is currently in Washington with three Changemakers for the Women Deliver conference. More on this soon, but for now Fran sends everyone these words from Ban Ki Moon: “If you let yourself concentrate on the fear, you can’t do anything.” Indeed, it’s the fearlessness of the Global Changemakers that has impressed me time and again.
- Gaby will be available on Skype again tomorrow (Wednesday, 9/6) from 3-4pm CET. (For the Brits out there, that’s 2-3pm GMT.) As always, you can reach her under global.changemakers.
Okay, that’s it for now. Back to those application videos… All the best from the Global Changemakers team!
P.S.: If you’re among the people who missed the application deadline, don’t worry – there will be more Global Changemakers opportunities in the future! For instance, if you’re between 16 and 19, you may want to make sure to check the website in mid-July… (Hint, hint.)
