Team Tuesday (24/8/2010)
Aaaand… after a long hiatus, it’s my turn again to write a Team Tuesday entry. Which means that it’s also my turn to post an embarrassing photo – although, to be fair, it’s a photo of myself from the Latin America and Caribbean Youth Summit, from a weird local tradition called festa junina. Don’t ask me who came up with the concept of guys getting false moustaches and monobrows, fake ties and straw hats and girls wearing false braids and having freckles painted on their faces. Different countries, different traditions, I guess… What sort of weird and wonderful traditions do you have in your countries?
It’s been a few weeks since the LACYS 2010, though, and we’re knee-deep in applications for the upcoming Global Youth Summit in the UK. We received 1365 regular applications, and everyone on the team has been busy watching and evaluating application videos. Lots of fans of Gandhi out there…! We’re almost there, though, and should be able to notify all applicants by next week – perhaps not by Monday morning, but you won’t have to wait all that much longer.
Fran, Global Changemakers Director and resident USAnian, is still in the States but will be back soon, as will CAPs Woman Gaby, who’s enjoying (we hope) Georgia. Not as in Gone with the Wind, but as in the Eastern European country bordering on Russia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Have a Khinkali for us, Gabs!
And that’s it for this week – tune in next Tuesday for a more complete team!
