Team Tuesday (16/3/2010)

Hello and welcome to the third Team Tuesday in the history of http://www.global-changemakers.net. Things here at the office are busy and well caffeinated, and for a change the sun’s actually shining outside, which makes a lovely change from last week’s arctic temperatures. Also, the new computers (see last week’s installment) are up and running, so it now takes about half an hour less every morning to log on and get things running. But what do we have in the way of updates?

  • Check out the Global Changemakers team (minus Fran, Sara and Chris, unfortunately) proudly wearing their Kick the Butt t-shirts, provided by our very own Davos Superstar, Sarah Jameel. Thanks a lot from everyone at the Bern team for the t-shirts!

  • We’ve collated a number of questions to the team, thanks to our UK Changemaker Scott. One of these questions (asked by Omar) deserves its own bulletpoint: “Are there any GCM events soon, ’cause the website says wait for updates & it has been the same in ages? Applications for activites this summer ?” Well, here’s an answer to that:

    Upcoming youth summits in 2010
    - Latin America Youth Summit 2010: August (call for applications: second half of May)
    - Africa Youth Summit 2010 (TBC): October (call for applications: first half of June)
    - Global Youth Summit 2010: November (call for applications: second to fourth week of July)

There will be various smaller events, but we won’t be using those to bring new people into the network.

  • Here are some more questions and answers:

    Q. I would be grateful to have the link for CAPS Application forms because I lost it during my Scholarship study abroad period at US! (Omar)
    A. Check out this CAPs Friday. Also, when you’re logged in, you should have access to “Application process and resources” in the CAPs section. If not, let me know and I’ll look into it.

    Q. Needed some more Info about a combined CAPS after discussing the idea with a friend from uganda during the African Summit Cape town 2009? (Omar)

    A. Also see the CAPs Friday entry linked to above for information on combined CAPs.

    Q. Is it ok to operate a CAP in Bangladesh from Malaysia? Because I am studying in Malaysia at present. (Shariqa)
    A. Sure it is, however you will need to prove you will be able to lead a successful CAP from another country, show you have a good team and a strategy in place to be able to do that. (Gaby)

    Q. Is it ok to incorporate other NGOs in my CAP as they can help me with the ground level work as I am in Malaysia? (Shariqa)
    A. It is ok to work in partnership with other organisations. You do have to bear in mind that all your partners need to be aknowledged in your CAP’s work. (Gaby)

    Q. As there are other GCMs are also doing a website through which they are performing their CAP, can I associate with another GCM who is doing a CAP in the same field as mine? (Shariqa)

    A. That really depends on you and the other Changemaker. When it comes to websites my advice is to create them when it makes sense. Finding a Changemaker working in the same field as you will not be difficult, but combining a website that serves two projects might be. (Gaby)

Okay, that’s it for this week. Don’t forget to post questions for next week!
