International Day of Peace: Join in the conversation!
Global Changemakers – have your voices be heard by top UN officials, Dr. Jane Goodall, and many more all around the world!
When: This Friday, September 18; 10:30am EST – 12:00 Noon EST
What: Global Changemakers have been invited to participate in the UN’s observance of International Day of Peace 2009. The theme of this years’ observance is “Disarm Now for a Better World” in line with the Secretary-General’s “We Must Disarm” campaign.
At UN Headquarters, 700 students will gather along with UN Messengers of Peace and students from UN peacekeeping missions in Liberia, Sudan, and Iraq to discuss disarmament and non-proliferation as they relate to youth. Under-Secretary-General Kiyo Akasaka will moderate.
How to get involved:
1) Let your voice be heard! You will be able to send a comment or question while the event is going on by using a form that will be available on the UN Cyberschoolbus home page. All you need to do is type your comment or question in the space that will be provided on the home page and click “Send.”
Some of the questions/comments will be read aloud to everyone participating in the International Day of Peace. You will be asked to send your name, age, school and country so please be sure to put the words Global Changemakers into the school field that will be included in the online form so GCM is referred to if your question gets read aloud.
2) You can watch a live webcast on www.cyberschoolbus.un.org using Real Player. (If you don’t have Real Player, download it for free at: http://www.real.com/realplayer?rppr=rnwk. If you’re in a time zone that makes it difficult to participate live, the webcast will be available online after the event.)
Any questions, please holler.
Happy International Day of Peace!
