Guildford faces, Guildford voices (7)

First, some apologies for the lack of updates – due to Wifi wobblies we weren’t able to post any new videos… until now.

Also, here are some words from one of last year’s Guildford voices:

“Congratulations to the Global Changemakers!

The fact that you are in Guildford means that you’ve gone far. You will realize there that you can go so much further. The British Council, your fellow Changemakers will make you feel that when you say your piece, you will be heard- something that doesn’t always happen to young activists. In fact, the energy, the ideas and the people will make you feel that you can actually change the world. Relish this experience for it will be a great source of inspiration. The real challenge is not Guildford or WEF, but what happens after.

For those who will participate in the WEF, don’t forget to bring enough business cards! You might feel a bit intimidated with all the powerful people, don’t be afraid to talk to them or share your experience. It would also be wiser to not just stick around all together but try to blend with the others to maximize the networking opportunity. Prepare an agenda earlier and read the biographies so you know whom you’d like to approach.

Write down your thoughts, realizations and projects you think can be adopted in your community. This will be helpful when you go back home. Share them to your fellow youths and if possible tap the media.

Tony Blair said we should also read more. Politicians often make the hardest decisions, and just like us; sometimes they are just as clueless.

Ask other people who know more. I wrote the Philippine ambassadors in the Middle East to give me a description of the situation of Filipinos in the region before coming there. They gave me valuable insights about the issues, a warm reception and a side tour to the Pyramids after the WEF.

Find a camera buddy. Take lots of pictures but remember to also focus on the opportunity that you are given and responsible of. Make yourself heard. Wear your national dress. Pin your national flag. Promote your country; tell them about the wonderful beaches, food and your culture.

Smile.
