uhuuuuuuuuuuuuu so happy about this!! Finally my age fits the requirements! excellent! fingers crossed! thank you, British Council for this great opportunity !
what aspect do you find most difficult? i cant understand it.what does it mean ?difficult to be select in summit or difficulty during preparing video, article and submitting it?
@Sulkhani: You’re welcome! Looking forward to your application.
Great!, Spreading the article right now!
, Good luck to everyone!!!!
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WHO ARE GOING TO APPLY !!!
AS FOR FUTURE GLOBAL CHANGEMAKERS I CAN SAY THAT THIS WILL BE THE MOST AWERSOME WEEK IN YOUR LIFE !!!
I’ve shared this morning to the students leaders in our school. Oh yeah. Thanks Matt! Hope we’ll get in this time. I really want to help this year’s summit.
I just got a question on my mind…
would successful applicants be granted financial assistance in order to participate the November affair?
thank you!
I really hope this time, I will be selected.
as far as I can remember travelling to UK was covered last year, am I right?
M Ready ^_^
@guchorami etc.: For the selected participants, travel, visa, accommodation and meals are covered by the British Council, and there are no registration costs or similar.
Hi Matt
My partner and I were working in a activist proyect since January and we want to apply in this summit, but we have a question,Could we apply as a couple or it only can be as a single person?
Thank you and greetings from Mexico!
hi matt. it really is very discouraging to jeep trying and not get picked. there is o harm in trying again and again though.
Some used to say the,”The sky is the limit but here Mr Matt gsse we have to redefine the odds,” AGE is the limit”! 15 to 21 yrs.
Let me say all the best to young & aspiring Global Change Makers!!!!!!
@Karla Sandoval: We cannot accept joint applications. I’m afraid you and your partner have to apply individually.
@silveruju: I understand that this can be discouraging, but I hope you understand that we cannot guarantee a place to anyone, even if they’ve applied several times. We get more and more applications each year, which means that the competition gets fiercer with every summit. I do wish you good luck with your application, though!
Hi, i just turned 16 and im ready to apply! a friend of mine has been talking to me the whole time since she came back last year. I have a doubt, my year chancellor asked me if the teachers had to write something about me? if you are going to send them an email or something. Thank you very much!!!!
Hi,
I was just wondering when I will receive an email to confirm the reception of my application?
@Julia: We do send out confirmation mails to all applicants who have submitted a complete application. It may take a few days, though – especially this week, since the confirmation mails have to be sent manually, and we’re in Brussels this week for the Euro-Africa Youth Summit. I will definitely send out a first round of confirmations before the end of this week, though.
@Belu Duthurbide: You need to specify a reference person in your application; we may contact this person in our selection process. Teachers are a good choice, for instance.
Im ready
I hope it
I will turn 22 on 13th Nov
does it matter what how high quility the video will be? I mean if I record it by webcam?
What happens if you above 21? Can you still apply?
@Sulkhani: As long as the sound quality is good enough (we need to be able to understand you), you can absolutely use a webcam.
@judejudoh: I’m afraid that our age limit is strict. We have regional summits aimed at an older group (18-24), but our next regional summit will only be in 2013.
I have a question to ask. I so want to participate but I dont have passport and the deadline is too close. Any suggestion for me?
@Prizma: You don’t need to have a passport when you apply – but do find out what the process is to get one and how long it’d take, in case you do get selected!
I’m turning 16 by 5th November! Hope I get selected and be involved this year’s summit!!! I srsly want to make a change and join this exciting summit
:D
Hi.
I was just wondering what the video content is supposed to be about? Also, I am from Nepal but currently pursuing my education in United States. And I will be in United States during November 2012. Do I mention United States as the country of my residence?
Thank you
@urushal: The video instructions tell you exactly what the video content needs to be about. You can find them here: http://www.global-changemakers.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/GYS2012_YouTube-instructions.pdf.
If you’re a resident of the United States in November 2012, that’s what we need to know.
Hello, i have an doubt : if i was selected, the costs that i’ll have to pay is my travel? Or all the costs will be covered by British Council?
Thank you!
@amanda: The British Council covers the following costs for the selected participants: travel, visa, accommodation and meals at the conference (+ conference costs
).
I’m always readyyy… c:
hey matt i just wanted to ask if im downloading the application form and want to prepare it offline to whom i have to mail this form after completing the details ( please specify the e mail address)
@fatima waseem shamsi: You’ll still need to fill in the online form – but you can prepare your answers offline and copy and paste them into the online form, which should make the process much faster.
To all applicants: we’ve been encountering some minor tech problems. You can apply regularly, but I’ll only be able to send out a round of confirmation mails (that we’ve received your application) on Tuesday. Please be patient – you should hear from us within 24 hours, if you’ve submitted a complete application!
Hi Matt Hope you are fine. I wanna attend the this event…… plz
i will be turning 23 by September can i apply?
Hello,
First of all thanks to British Council & GYS’12 for providing us with such a big opportunity to interact with each other. Sir, I’ve applied for GYS’12 and I would like to ask first that I’ve mention two reference employees, but both are a blood relation to me. So would it be necessary for not being a blood relation ? If it is, then kindly respond to me and I will provide another two references which are not a blood relation to me. My second question is that in the Passport # column I’ve wrote NO, because my passport is in Applied for period. I will have my passport within 20 to 25 working days. Would this effect my application’s status if I didn’t provided my passport # in the form.
Kindly answer both my questions.
I am looking forward for a healthy response.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Regards.
1) While your references can be blood relatives, you can send me new references at info@global-changemakers.net. I’d suggest you send me at least one non-relative.
2) Not having a passport yet doesn’t have any effect on your chances.
Hope this helps!
Definitely your response helped me sir..! I am sending the new non-relative reference. Thank you so much for your prompt response.
Dear Matt,
I hope you are doing well. I was wondering if there would be other solutions to submit my application video, as I’m working in China this summer and as you may well know, Youtube and Vimeo (along with other interactive and video services) is blocked.
Best wishes,
Suraj Karmacharya
Are you able to access file-sharing services such as Dropbox or YouSendIt? If so, you can send us your video via one of these services. If this doesn’t work, send me a mail and we’ll figure something out.
Hello,
I have a question. While making the video of answer to your questions, should we make video with questions and answers alternately or we are to give only answers regularly without making questions? Or can we use someone else voice to ask question. I am confused for this.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Hi Sir Matt. I am from Mindanao, Philippines. I hope you were able to receive my application for the Global Changemakers Youth Summit 2012. I just submitted it yesterday, Friday (approx: 10pm, Philippine Time). Thank you. Hope to get a confirmation from you. More power!
Application submitted..Excited..May the best ones get selected.
Best of luck everyone..!
@Bikal Ghimire: It’s up to you, though leaving out the questions and only giving the answers gives you more time for what is substantial. Then again, some people are more comfortable with doing it interview-style, which means that their answers are also more effective. If you have time, experiment with the different styles and see whether the resulting video is under two minutes!
hi , I’m Manal from Algeria , I want to know whether Algerians can apply for this program or not ?
hmmm, here it comes again !!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Matt,
am a registered member on this website! But have’nt been recieving any notifications about the happenings on the network . Am i still regarded as a member? because i want to apply again… thanks
@manal harrouche: Any nationality can apply for the Global Youth Summits.
@RONALD: We’ve just launched the weekly website digests, which you should also receive. They let you know what’s been going on on the website. However, you do need to check out the website and/or Facebook page every now and then if you wish to be an active member of the community. In addition, anyone who fits the profile can apply for the summit – registered users or not.
I made my video, its under 2 minutes and its of resolution 640*480 but the video size became of 205 Mb(mega bytes). Can I upload the same or I should compress or make another one??
@Matt_BC I was wondering if you guys only select one person from each country or more than one (if more than one person applied)?
Dear Sir Matt,
Greetings from Philippines!
I have already submitted the complete requirements last July 6 (Thursday) and I still haven’t received any confirmation mail until now. Do I need to apply again and send the video link? I am afraid that the Global Changemakers may not have received my application.
Thank you very much! More power!
@Bikal: You should be able to upload it to YouTube as is, depending on your connection. On our end it doesn’t make a difference, as long as the video isn’t too long!
@Izzat: We try not to take too many people from one country, but if they’re all strong applicants we can take up to three or four from the same country.
@Trinnah: I’ll be going through the new applications today; if you don’t receive a notification by tomorrow, let me know. (Do note, though, that it can take up to three business days – which in your case would be Thursday, Friday, Monday.)
Finally application submitted after long hours of continuous work…
Really excited.
May be best ones get selected..
Best of luck to me and to everyone who are applying.
Looking forward for the confirmation mail…
Thank You
Sir Matt, I already got the confirmation mail. Thank you very much for your prompt response. God bless everyone who is behind this great event!
Hi Matt
I am bit confuse about the age requirement. I will be 21 years 5 month old during the start of the program at November this year. But I am not sure whether I am able to participate or not.
I would appreciate if you can clarify my confusion about my eligibility.
Sir Matt,
In my application form, as one of the two reference persons I have given name and contacts of Principal of my college where I was enrolled previously. Does that work or not?
Sir Matt,
Could you please reply me how long will be the video. What is it about ? Is it will be judge by liking from internet. What will be its size?Is it unlimited or whatever its size is?what about writing? Does not there any word limit?
@Mohammad Abir Mazumder: You’re basically 21 until your 22nd birthday, so yes, you’re still eligible.
@Bikal Ghimire: That’s definitely okay.
@Md. Saidur Rahman: Make sure to check the video instructions linked to above – it answers most of your questions concerning length and content. The videos are evaluated by a jury of British Council staff and Global Changemakers alumni.
I have already submitted my application but I havent received an email from the global changemakers..
I’ve just checked and your application doesn’t include a video link, nor a message saying that your video link would be sent by mail; we only confirm applications once either of these is the case.
Why is the age limit stops at 21? United Nations Definition of youth is from age 15- 24. I am saddened by the fact that I miss the age upper limit by a year, and I have been waiting on an opportunity like this for awhile now. I missed the Caribbean and Latin America Summit and now this sigh. I hope my suggestion is taken into consideration for future events.
Hello. I have a question because some youth from my country are very interested in the summit but they were not sure if the program would cover all costs, including transportation to the venue.
I remember last time I participated of the Summit in Rio de Janeiro, all costs were covered. Is it still the same for this year?
Thanks in advance.
Fede.-
Hello !! I just sent my application but I’m not sure if it went well, I mean.. I am supposed to receive a mail that confirms that I sent my application ?
Is there any country restrictions for this summit, like euro-africa summit?
can I apply? I’m from United States.
@Raniel Remar Adman: I understand your frustration, but for practical reasons (e.g. group cohesion) it is important to work with certain restrictions. Working with a group with ages as diverse as 15-24 is a very particular challenge; we can deliver a better summit by having more of a focus.
@Fede de los Santos-Queirolo: The British Council covers the following costs for participants: visa, travel, summit costs, accommodation and meals while in the UK.
@Daniela Gutierrez Torres: We are currently experiencing internet difficulties at the office, but provided they’re resolved in time I will send out notifications tomorrow morning. Please note that it takes up to three business days (Mon-Fri) for notifications to be sent in general.
@Syed Mehdi Raza: For this summit there are no country restrictions.
Dear Matt,
I am just new, I heard this global summit from my Japanese Friend.
I am currently a Social entrepreneur and really eager to participate.
But I am born on October 14, 1990.
which means I am still 21 but would turn 22 yrs old just before the summit.
Since most likely I would not be able to join is there any other summit like this that I could attend?
Thank you in advance,
Claude
@Claudio Genegaban Libres Jr.: I’m afraid our age limit is strict for this summit. There may be regional summits (with an age range of 18-24) that you can apply for in the future – they’re not set yet, but visit this website and our Facebook fan page frequently to be up to date on forthcoming summits!
Dear Matt,
Thank for your reply.
maybe I will just wait for my turn.
Thanks again.
Regards!
I’m from Venezuela and I’m really interested in applying for this summit, just the same as my sister, but I’d like to know more about the activities that are done in the summit, if you could give that information of course.
And to ask about the plain ticket, how would the arrangement be? And, if I could pay my own ticket for the way back, only for the way back, as to stay in the UK for a week more. I know that it may have issues with the visa or the insurance, but I’d still love to know if there’s any possibility of doing so.
Thank you very much.
@Lucia Faccini: The summit mainly consists of workshops, training sessions, group work, talks (e.g. about social entrepreneurship), with half a day to a day reserved for a trip to London including a reception for the participants. The idea is that by the end of the week participants have worked out project plans that many of them will implement in the following, with our support.
As far as return flights and staying longer are concerned, it depends on a couple of factors, e.g. the participant’s age (we have a duty of care for anyone under 18 according to UK law, so if they wanted to stay longer they’d have to have e.g. relatives who can take on that duty of care after the summit) and visa issues, as you’ve already indicated.
Hope that helps – let me know if you have any other questions!
Thank you so much for replying to my question
My sister has 18 and I’m 19 (though I’ll turn 20 before the summit), so I think that there won’t be any trouble with age, anyhow we have family in Europe so we can arrange to meet them after. But about the visa, what should I do? Should I apply and wait to see how the visa arrangement will be? For how long it’d be, right?
Thanks again, and sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi Matt
i just wanted to ask about the accomodation… where will be staying? Thanks
@Lucia Faccini: Don’t worry about visas at this point. We work with the people who are selected to facilitate their getting a visa.
@Yasmeenelfeki: I’m sorry, that bit of information is not something we make public, for reasons of security.
hello Sir. i have submitted my application again. I hope this time you can view my link on youtube.
I have submitted my application,i’m only left with my video which i’m currently working on before the due date
my age isn’t fit yet to the requirement:(
Hi Matt,
My question is regarding the deadline. Can we submit the application anytime on sunday the 15th or do we have to submit it before the 15th of July?
@Saim Ejaz Chaudhary: You can still submit your application any time on Sunday 15 July.
Yay! Finally done with sending the application. Really hope i will get in, because it will be my first international event! So excited *_*
Wish luck, everybody!
Hope to see you there guys : )
Application has completed , Looking forward to see the results ,
Regards from Turkey
@Matt_BC I’d like to ask about something, I’m not involved in a certain project but I have great ideas in business and economy development I won an innovation competition before in this field, but I really want to join this event and to develop my skills, I’m also a volunteer in some charitable organizations .
does my qualifications meet the requirements?
@Dalia: I’d say you definitely meet the requirements. While your track record is one factor in how we evaluate the applications, it’s not the only one. Looking forward to your application!
Good day! I am a representative of the Tarlan Union of Youth from Kazakhstan. I have one specific question. If we have 2 members who want to participate on the GC event, can we make one video from the Tarlan Union of Youth and just attach it? Should 2 members be in this the video or it’s ok with one member answering the questions? Look forward hearing from you. Thank you!
The question which we are suppose to answer in the video and the question which we are asked in the application form are quiet similar. Do we have to copy the same answer for the same question or what is the proper norm? please reply ASAP. the deadline is near.
Peace to you!!
@Madina Bizhanova: We only accept individual applications, so your members have to apply separately.
@Zahid Masood: You don’t need to copy the exact answer – in fact, you probably couldn’t, since the video is 2 minutes max. The written application is there for us to fill in the blanks; the video is the main part.
I am sorry but I did not follow your comment. What did you mean by “The written application is there for us to fill in the blanks; the video is the main part”? like the question what is your motivation for attending this specific event, it has been asked in both places.
We use the written application to get a more complete picture – in a two minute video, people have to leave out things, shorten things etc. If we watch a video and feel, on the basis of that video, that we want to know more, we look at the written application in more detail. However, if the video doesn’t hook us (in that respect, it’s like a two-minute pitch why you should come to the summit instead of someone else), chances are we won’t look at the application in detail.
what should be the video application title ?
I’d go for something like your name, followed by “GYS 2012 application video”. It doesn’t really matter, though; if we’ve got the link, we know it’s your application video, so the title could be anything, really.
would you please tell me before you contact the people who recommend me ? because they are very busy people and they ask me to tell them before the committee contact them.
Okay, will do.
Should we have included links to relevant websites as part of our applications? I submitted one this afternoon and meant to add links to websites of the groups I am involved in, but totally forgot. Since it is still before the deadline, If I submitted another application with links to the relevant sites, would you consider it as part of my original application? Or do including links not really make a difference? Thanks.
@Erin Gough: No need for weblinks. Your original application will be just fine.
Sir Matt,
I have already submitted my application. But I have missed mentioning some information. Can I re-submit it updating my application form.
You can, yes, at least if you’re doing it from the same computer with cookies activated. If you’re taken to a blank application form, I’d suggest you send it to me by e-mail instead. (info@global-changemakers.net)
hello sir I just passed my application now will it is still be honored?
CROSSFINGERS
If it’s complete (i.e. it includes the video link or you’ve sent me a video link separately) then you should be fine.
All complete applications coming in by midnight Sunday to Monday (Swiss time) will be considered.
Sir Matt,
How to send the application to your e-mail, I cant save our details in the blank application form that I downloaded.
I have just submitted my application with necessary information and video link. How could I be confirmed that my application contains no wrong and will I be confirmed before 15th July? If I get the confirmation after 15th July then will my application be granted? Could you please reply?
Hi I have applied right now, But I would like to add one of the references mentioned there. How should I proceed about it?
@Bikal Ghimire: Check the instructions on this page – you can prepare the answers offline, but you then have to copy and paste them into the online application form.
@sujit-roy: The office is closed over the weekend – the notifications will be sent out after the weekend.
@gurpriya singh: You can send it to info@global-changemakers.net.
Hello Matt,
A few minutes ago, I submitted my application for the Global Youth Summit 2012. What an exciting opportunity!
However, after reviewing my youtube video, I realized that I didn’t delete two seconds of useless time at the end of the video, which caused it to be 2:06. Is there any way I could re-submit the video portion to ensure that my video is viewed? (If this is a possibility, I’d like to know rather soon, as the deadline is less than 24 hours away!) I do not want a second of void time to reduce my chances.
I hope you are enjoying a fun-filled summer.
Warmly,
Allison Martin
I sent an email with the revised video.
Hey, i wanted to make sure..that do i receive a confirmation e-mail that my form has been received? If so i have not received any yet.
@Allison Martin: No worries, we’ll accept the video at its current length.
@Amna Javed: Over the weekend the office is closed. We will send out confirmations tomorrow, as they cannot be sent out automatically.
I make the video about 2.05 second, but when I uploaded it to youtube then it becomes 2.06 second. Does it have any negative effect?
no
Dear Matt,
I want to ask, how many participants will be selected?
Thanks
@sujit-roy: Not a problem.
@Noval-Kurniadi: We will select 60 participants – so the competition is fierce. (We’re currently at 2814 applications…)
Dear Matt,
Is 2:15 ok for the video?
Hello sir Matt ,
I have already sent my application . It was said it was received. But It was said there also , there should be a confirmation mail . But I do not get it still now . What should I do now ? Should I again apply ?If any one apply 2 times what happen?Thank you
I have send my application but still have not got any e-mail asking for video link. What should I do?
Hi Matt..i’ve sent u my application…and i have noted there my referencer’s number, position, and contact details..but there isn’t shown that these people should write references about me..that’s why i haven’t sent u any reference..but if u need i can send..
Hello, I just wanted to know whether my video would not be accepted because it is 2:06. When I recorded it initially it was exactly 2:05 however once I uploaded it up onto Youtube, it added on one second. I’m not sure what the case is but unfortunately I could not re-edit it. Please accept my video, I do apologize for the extra one second. I don’t know why it added on through Youtube.
Thank you.
@Mikayel: It’s acceptable.
@Md. Saidur Rahman: When did you send in your application? The message that you saw would’ve said that it takes up to *three business days* to send out the notifications. The office is closed over the weekend, so the notifications will only go out afterwards.
@Şafak Kul: Send your video link (YouTube, Vimeo or file-sharing) to info@global-changemakers.net.
@arzu: If necessary we will contact your references.
I have sent it today at 6 pm 15 july 2012 bangladesh time….
I just sent it at 2am pakistan time so technically it is still the 15th in england. sorry i did not take the time difference in account but i hope i made it on time. P.s i found out about this today and i am eager to participate in it so please consider my entry. apologies again
Dear Matt
I was wondering if you could check me my application status. I believed that I had submitted a completed online application.
My email address is minhson91@gmail.com
Please let’s me know is I still missing something.
Thank a lot,
Son
Matt! Haven’t received any confirmation email saying that your party has received my application. :/ Should I be worried? I submitted it yesterday, July 15, before 8pm Malaysia time.
I will be checking the applications that came in over the weekend today when I get to the office, and notifications should go out today as well.
Thank you so much!
Hello Matt, i am kind of fretting now, i still have not received the confirmation mail, the deadline in past and i can not even send a new form..:S
The notifications have to be sent out manually, before which we have to check all the applications that have come in. All notifications should be sent out today, though – please be patient!
Hi Matt,
Thank you so much !
matt i haven’t received any email from global youth summit 2012 committee since i have submitted my application last saturday
@yoskha_DA: Over the weekend the office was closed, and today I’ve been going through the 3400 applications and over 300 mails that have come in, checking applications and video links as well as downloading videos sent by file-sharing. Please be patient – we’re working as fast as we can!
Dear Matt,
I know this is a busy time with you and an Office. I hope that you will make a great decision in choosing a great candidate to attend the summit and as well as feel happy because of the great of qualified application number. I am sure that the Summit will be held successfully and we can learn from another a lot.
Best wishes from Viet Nam.
dear matt : sorry i don’t know that, and sorry about my question, actually i am patient matt, i was just wondering because it was said that i will receive the confirmation e mail within 3 working days.
Hello again…i know this is probably annoying you and i am apologizing in advance , but i am kind of worried here..:/
Umm i haven’t yet received the confirmation…:( do check the junk mail as well.
@Amna: I’ve checked and a notification was sent to you – although perhaps it was filtered out by your spam filter. We’ve received your complete application; you’ll be informed in mid-August whether you’ve been selected or not.
Matt_BC I sent my application but I still did not receive any confirmation or any other news, so if you could please check if it’s everything ok with my application or not. Thank you in advance and I am so sorry because I know how hard you guys must be working..
Hello dear Matt, would u please check my application I have sent it but i didnt get any confirmation email yet!
My name is: Hasan Baher
Thanks
Thank you Matt. And i am again sorry for causing any inconvenience. Have a nice day..:)
Hi Matt! I haven’t received confirmation email either ..:(
Hello Matt! I am apologizing in advance, but i’m pretty nervous and worried…The problem is that I haven’t received confirmation email…Could u please double check your mail, I am Aizhan, from the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Thank you very much.
really late to apply this,
i join this site recently, may every change-makers help me how to get some info about a calling for applications ,
thanks
Hello Matt,
I’ve got a problem. I applied for change makers and everyone got the message that they will further informed about the program in August. But I haven’t received any mails regarding when I will be informed about the selection procedure.
What’s the thing? can you please clarify.
when is the dead line?
I’m afraid the deadline is long past, namely on 15 July.
Hey Matt,
My name is Yohan Senarath and I applied for this year’s Global Changemaker’s Summit from Sri Lanka. Matt, I submitted both my video and application on the 14th of July (I apologize for keeping it so close to the deadline, it’s just that I came to know about the summit very late). However I am yet to receive a reply confirming the receipt of my application.
Would you be kind enough to look into this matter please.
Hey Matt,
Now that I checked my spam, I noticed that I had received a confirmation mail. Please disregard my earlier comment. Best wishes.
So nervous but so excited at the same time.
Greetings from PERU!!!!!
Dear Mr. Matt,
I am writing from Mongolia with interest to attend the Global Youth Summit, but I’m afraid I am late. Will this be organized next year? Or is there a chance for me to apply for this one, hoping that the deadline for applications has been postponed. (fingers crossed).
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Tserendolgor
Mongolia
even tho i wasn’t selected, i wish all the best to those who will take a part of this event! let keep working hard to build a better world
