Starting now, we’re accepting applications for the upcoming Euro-Africa Youth Summit 2012, which will take place in Brussels from 24-30 June. The call for applications is open for social entrepreneurs, community activists and volunteers aged 18-24 from Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe.

Note that the application consists of the online application form and a 2-minute video (to be submitted via YouTube or other video-/file-sharing service). You can download the video instructions here.
If you’re already a Changemaker who has taken part in one of our summits, you can apply for one of the positions as peer facilitator. (If you have any problems with this link, you can find an alternative version of the peer facilitator application form here. You can download the PDF template of the peer facilitator application form here.)
Please note that the application deadline is 19 February 2012!

@ matt, I was extremely excited when I found out about the Euro-Africa youth summit in June, I was hoping to apply since I am from the Extreme Sub-saharan region in Africa. I am from South Africa. does that then hinder me from applyin for the summit. I would love to attend and share my genius( well,so I would like to believe) ideas. honestly im heart broken.
@Thato: As long as you fit the rest of the profile, you’re fine. As you say, it doesn’t get much more Sub-Saharan than South Africa!

@Qehreman: We usually have no more than three participants for any given country, but there are no minimal quota for countries either. We try to have a good regional balance and geographic spread, but mostly we decide on the basis of how good someone’s application is.
Hello mr. @Matt_BC What I didn’t notice and was wondering about is if the transportation and accommodation for the participants will be provided or if they should take care of the costs themselves.

Could you clarify a few points, please?
1)What is the word-limit for these essays:
“What is your motivation for participating in this event?
If selected, how will you use your attendance at the EuroAfrica Youth Summit 2012
to advance your community work and/or goals”
2) I don’t also quite get this question: What communities and networks are you active in that are relevant to your work as an activist, volunteer or social entrepreneur?
is it where I should include the list of organisations/NGOs/ libraries and orphans where I volunteer? or here should be different info?
AND HERE COMES ANOTHER QUESTION:
What volunteer work, social entrepreneurship or community activism have you been
involved in? Describe your involvement in a couple of sentences
should I describe the activities mentioned in the previoUs paragraph?

@Slave Angelov: Transportation and accommodation are covered by the British Council.
@Polina Sulima: 1) Don’t write whole essays; lists of bulletpoints are fine. The emphasis should be on your application video. Remember that something short and succinct usually is more convincing than an epic text.
2) You might be a member of Amnesty International or of an alumni organisation or working with the World Bank’s anti-corruption network. As you write, a list of relevant organisations and programmes is what we’re looking for.
3) This asks about the activity, where the last question asks about the organisations. E.g. you can be with Amnesty and do very different things, from campaigning to fundraising to project management.

@Nigar: The application is enough. We would be happy to welcome you as a member of our online community, on http://www.global-changemakers.net and on Facebook, but neither is a requirement for you to apply, nor will it influence how we evaluate your application.
@Adeola Temitope Aroso: I’m afraid that we currently don’t offer any summits where people aged 25 or older can join the network. Sorry.

@Dynka: You need to have taken part in a previous Global Changemakers summit and you need to be between 18 and 25 in order to apply as a peer facilitator.

hi guys,i wanted to know what will happen on the travelling costs as well as accomodation and other expenses suppose im selected?im i going to bear on my own or i will be sponsored?

oh hi matt! just thought I should find out what if you dont have a valid passport what’s the procedure then and do you have to submit your video together with the rest of your application? Anxious
my passport has expired what should i do. because i was filling the form and they requested for it.
@maurice matewa and @senator: If you are selected, you can get a new passport at that stage – as long as you’re aware that attendees will need a valid passport. Not having one at this point will not lessen your chances of being selected.
@maurice matewa: As long as we have your video link by the end of the deadline we will consider your application. You can send it in later by e-mail (info@global-changemakers.net).

@irada: As mentioned to others in this comments thread, a valid passport is not a requirement for being selected, and not having one will not impair your chances.
Regular participants *cannot* have taken part in any earlier Global Changemakers summits; those applying to become a peer facilitator *must* have taken part in an earlier summit.

Now to my question, as I haven’t received any grants from the GCM since my participation at the 2009 GCM Summit in London but I’m being greatly participating in the Forum network and also submitting grant applications but I’m not always lucky to be selected, could I be fortunate to be selected as a Peer Facilitator in this upcoming GCM Summit in Brussels, Belgium?

As any active Changemaker you’ve got a fair chance, but keep in mind that we regularly receive 100+ applications for the 10 positions as peer facilitators. As much as we’d like to, we cannot promise a place as peer facilitator to any of our Changemakers.
It now that i come to realize that Change Makers is a very interested place to be and a popular network that help the Youths around the world to known about the up-coming events around the global world and also hereby introducing this network to follow Nigerians out there.

@irada: The problem with uploading a video to Facebook is that this doesn’t guarantee that the entire jury can view your video. I would suggest that you try to submit it by YouSendIt.com instead (see video instruction PDF).

I’ve just turned 25, but I’ve never taken part in any previous Global Changemakers summits.
Is it normal if I apply for the project?
hey matt I finally uploaded my video as to complete my application as requested and edited it where necessary but my video is 2mins 6 secs long will that affect my being considered.

@Jalal: I’m afraid that the age range is fixed – if you are outside it, we cannot consider you for the event.
@Thuto: Don’t worry – for some reason or other YouTube sometimes adds a few seconds. Your video will be fine as it is.
