CAPs Friday 18/9/09

Our Global Changemakers are not only active in their communities – they’re also taking the internet by storm! Check out these three brand new websites that have come out of the Community Action Projects:

Model ASEM
The aim of this simulation is for its 90 participants to identify the common challenges to Asia and Europe in order to begin making policy contributions upon their return to their respective countries. The event will ask participants to reflect upon their own backgrounds, to make them be more aware of others’ opinions and to create a greater understanding and co-operation between the two continents. Finally, norms of social responsibility and the notion of global citizenship will be discussed and debated in an attempt to spur further engagement post-event.

GF40
This CAP will identify young people between 16-25 who wish to become trainers on HIV, AIDS, and sexually transmitted diseases. The training curriculum is accredited and being built in partnership with the Terrance Higgins Trust. The CAP will result in a 40 person residential in April 2010 as well as advocacy and awareness campaigns beforehand, in conjunction with World AIDS day. Before returning to their respective countries, trainees will be paired with a professional mentor. This project is officially supported by celebrity chef Jaime Oliver.

Centigrade
This project aims to create a network of primary school learners (Grades 5-7) that will be knowledgeable and active in alleviating climate change. It seeks to raise substantial awareness about the looming dangers of global warming, to advocate change regarding our perception about the environment and our behaviour towards it. Amongst this projects activities are to:

  • Promote environmentally-friendly lifestyles for future generations;
  • Plant trees;
  • Promote clean living and recycling;
  • Create a movement of young environmental activists.
