About Me “I am a social activist from Kingdom Of Bahrain and have worked on a lot of community service programs since 2000. These programs included workshops for Bahraini youth to develop their sense of responsibility towards their communities, in collaboration with Future youth and children society we have managed to reach to a huge number of young Bahrainis who aim was to make Bahrain a better place.
Basically being a young activist in Bahrain and being part of a very important society like FYCS helped me get a closer look at what does a young Bahraini want? And the answer was to be heard. So setting off from this point I have managed to convince the Ministry of information in Bahrain to give a better chance for youth of Bahrain to express themselves, along with a lot of activists who shared the same goal have pushed the ministry to work along with our goal and accomplish it to create a better community where youth are free to express their feelings and talk about their issues without restrictions and we ended up with a beautiful result of a radio station designed for all the youngsters in Bahrain to just make their voices heard.
The Guildford Forum was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had, I think through this experience I have learnt that the more differences we have between us and other cultures the closer we get to understand that different is just another word of unity, meeting the British council members there who made sure that everything was well organized and prepared made me realize, that its people like them who help bring differences together in a small place to let the world know that peace is possible when youth talk about their opinions to the world, and getting to know the participants there, the incredibly intelligent and down to earth participants who helped me understand that I’m not the only person in this world who wants to make it a better place for everyone, they make this mission much easier for me!
Today I am studying Communication studies at the American University in Dubai, where I am a member of AUDAID a group of students who aim to look after the poor and the hungry, before I joined this group they have already accomplished international aids where they built schools in some countries in Africa, today we have launched a project called “Teaching English” where the group volunteers to look for volunteering English teachers who would teach English to low income labor workers from all around Dubai. It has been a success so far with graduating over 50 labor workers, and this project is ongoing =)
We have been working on a lot of stage play productions that were written and directed by students where they aim to raise awareness about today’s youth issues through performing on stage in the university and drawing media attention to their productions to reach to as many youth as possible.
My main focus is on how can I use Media as a tool that will help understand youth’s issues and their needs around the world, that’s why I chose to study in this field. Today I am working on raising awareness in Bahrain for young activists to express their political opinions and their needs in a democratic way, and use new media and online networks with ethics and honesty, in order to create better ways of solving their issues and that’s through “dialogue and advocacy”.”
