The Global Debates 2010/2011 on international migration
The Global Debates (TGD) are a year-long initiative developed to give high school students (age 14-19) and their teachers an opportunity to initiate and actively participate in public discussion and activities around critical international issues.
Who can participate?
Teams of high schools students supervised by teacher or an adult affiliated with the school
How to join
To participate in the Contest, schools need to register on the TGD website and conduct a range of activities during the two Global Debates Campaigns: October – December 2010 and February– April 2011. The main theme of TGD for the year 2010-2011 is international migration. In the fall we focus on:
- Nations of the world should increase protection of the economic and social rights of migrants.
In addition to organizing public debates, schools can submit essays, photos, videos and organize public service events. Each activity organized by a school will be awarded points.
What can you win?
The schools which collect the highest number of points will win amazing prizes – including a trip (with a teacher who can judge) to the IDEA International Debate Youth Forum in Istanbul, Turkey, in July/ August 2011.
IDEA is a non-for profit international organization working with young people and for young people. IDEA’s mission it to educate future generations of responsible citizens globally by promoting discussion, youth leadership and participation locally. Since its beginning in 2003, there have been more than 70,000 Global Debates activities carried out in 90 countries around the world. Make sure you and your community are represented this year too!
