Who can apply?
- Social entrepreneurs, community activists and volunteers aged 16-19 (on 13 November)
- Applicants must be able to make themselves available in the UK from 13-19 November
- They must not have taken part in any previous Global Changemakers summits
- They must be able to communicate comfortably in English
What is required?
- Applicants must submit the application form below, as well as a video (no longer than 2 minutes) (download the video instructions here)
If I am selected, what are the costs involved?
- The following participant costs are covered by the British Council: travel, visa fee, accommodation and meals during the summit
What is the deadline?
- All applications (application form + video) must arrive by midnight on 24 July.

hey the british council information page tells us that the information regarding the video is in the application page . however to my surprise i dont see where to fill in the video information. guys any idea where i can add the info about my video ???

I will be attending the Asia youth summit this july, so does that mean i have to apply as a peer facilitator?

@Nasheetha: Exactly. You can only attend one summit as a regular participant, and one summit as a peer facilitator, if you’re selected.
However, while you’re allowed to apply already as a facilitator, we base our decision among other criteria on the follow-up and project work a Changemaker does – in other words, since the application deadline is right after your first summit, we won’t have much to go on in this respect with you or other Asia Youth Summit participants applying as peer facilitators. Your chances will be considerably higher once you’ve been a Global Changemakers for a few months and we’ve had a chance to assess your engagement in the programme.

I do not have a passport at the moment because my dad misplaced it before he died. I am in the process of getting a new one and i should have it in a couple of weeks, will it affect my chances of being accepted for the summit?

When those students that are selected are announced, would it still be safe to apply for a passport or would it be too late?
@matt : i send my application with the youtube url that i had uploaded ,however when i tried to watch it again in the youtube i got the information that said the video is not available . this concludes that the gcm will not get to see my video so do i need to start the entire application process again and with a new url ?

I am from Iraq and very interested in applying for this program.
The program requires that the applicants must be between ages 19 to 16 and my birthday is 01/01/1991. That means by the time the program begins I will be 19 years and 11 months old. Am I eligible to apply for the program?
You’re 19 until you turn 20, so yes, you are eligible.

Hi, how long should the essay questions on the 2nd part be? (like generally).
Also in “describing my volunteer work”, am I supposed to pick 1 particular work or choose a few? Thank you.
@Masala dosa: We don’t expect long essays – basically we just need the information, we don’t evaluate the answers as an essay. With respect to your volunteer work, give the ones you consider most important.
Due to our country’s internet connection, I need to upload my video at British council office. When I asked for it, they told that I need to fill my application form first. Can I summit my application form and video separately?
@matt : i redid the entire application again with the new url, before i got ur reply because i was almost petrified that i might loose the chance is it ok that i acted on my impulse or do i need to do something else ? sorry for troubling u time and again
@lucyfibi: I just checked and your application is fine and the video works. You’re basically done with your application – now it’s our job to do the evaluation.

@ThuyAnh: I’m afraid you are too old for the Global Youth Summit. Keep your eyes open for a regional summit, though, where we work with participants aged 18-24. We’ll announce any such summits on the website and on Facebook.
@Gala: 2 minutes 4 seconds is still okay. Anything over 2’10″ would have to be edited, though.
Would I require to send later on any diplomas or documents that would recomend me?

Hi, is the selection done entirely on the basis of the application and the video submitted? Or, do we also have a certain follow-up interview once we are shortlisted? And, by when will the shortlisted/selected candidates be notified?
@Srijana Tiwari: The first step of the selection process is based on the video and the written application; we then have a round of interviews with the shortlisted candidates.
We should be able to notify all applicants by 20 August.
I have a question. What exactly is the theme of the summit? And, if our application is accepted, how are we going to be interviewed?

We are working as fast as possible, but it will take some time to go through all the application-related mails that have come in. We will notify applicants within the next 1-2 days whether their application has arrived.
My application was complete but my vdo was only completed at the last moment and i dont think its there..:( what should i do/
Hi matt, can I know when will next summit take place? I have friends who are interested but missed GYS’s application this time. Also some of them will be above 19 years for next year’s GYS. So is there another summit this year itself for them to participate?
@Srijana Tiwari: Since the budget for next year isn’t 100% clear yet, we cannot confirm any specific summits, I’m afraid. By the time the Global Youth Summit comes around, though, we should know more. This year there won’t be any other summit, though. Sorry I can’t be more helpful right now!
My other queries, is it important that we include the pictures of our community works in the application video? And, once the applicant is selected, how are you guys going to determine who to select as representatives for WEF?
@Srijana Tiwari: I can’t generalise – some videos with images from community work are very effective, others aren’t, and some videos don’t use images but the applicants’ words evoke very effective images.
Concerning the WEF: when we send representatives to Davos, their selection is a two-stage process, taking into consideration the democratic opinions of the Global Youth Summit group and a jury of team members, peer facilitators and other stakeholders. I’m afraid that’s all the details I can give you for now.
