Are you great at project management? Are you an expert at facilitating events? Are you a social media guru or mad about Monitoring and Evaluation?
If you are any of these, why not share your skills with likeminded people who want to bring about positive change in their communities? Global Changemakers is offering financial support for training events developed and run by Changemakers. The success of your submission depends on its quality. We recommend that you work with fellow Changemakers, peers or other organisations to deliver a strong training event and empower others to make a change for the better.
Note that the training grants are intended for training events by Changemakers – they are not given to Changemakers who wish to attend a training event organised by others!
Training grants
We are offering individual grants for trainings organised and run by Global Changemakers of GBP250 for smaller events and GBP500 for larger trainings. (GBP = British Pounds)
Per quarter (January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December) a total of GBP2500 is available; once this sum has been spent, no more training grants are available until the next quarter. Any unspent quarterly budget carries over to the next quarter.
For 2012 quarter 2 (April-June) GBP1000 are currently available.
Criteria for training events
- The training event should cover 1-2 days. (For longer training events, a CAP grant may be the better option.)
- The training can be general, covering several aspects of project work, or specific to particular areas (e.g. social media, facilitation) or issues (e.g. human rights, social entrepreneurship).
- The participants of the training should be involved in volunteer work, community activism or social entrepreneurship and committed to using the skills provided at the training to generate more impact in their work.
- Attendance at the training event must be free of charge. However, the Changemaker organising the event is free to limit the number of participants, depending on the format and setup of the event.
- Any advertising and training materials produced for the event must state that the event is supported by the British Council’s Global Changemakers programme. However, the Changemaker organising the event is free to work with other organisations and institutions to deliver a strong event and to co-brand the event accordingly.
- Attendees should be encouraged to register on www.global-changemakers.net and the Global Changemakers Facebook page.
- The training event must take place within one month of the grant money being transferred.
Who can apply for a training grant?
Anyone who has participated in a Global Changemakers event as a Changemaker and is aged 16 to 25 can apply for a training grant. Please note, though, that recipients of a training grant cannot reapply for another grant the following quarter; e.g. if you received a training grant in Q1 (January-March), you can only apply for another one in Q3 (July-September).
How do I apply for a training grant?
To apply for a training grant, fill in the online application form (you can download a PDF template of the form). If you have trouble with your internet connection or with SurveyMonkey and cannot fill in the form online, contact matt.kimmich@britishcouncil.ch.
What happens after the grant is accepted?
We will make individual agreements with successful applicants outlining the terms and conditions of each grant.
The British Council expects to be informed about the success of your project. You will be required to submit a final report using this form:
Report form for training grants (PDF template of report form)
You will also need to write a blog post on the training event (to be posted on www.global-changemakers.net – cross-posts on other sites are allowed, provided that a link to the Global Changemakers website is given) and submit receipts or invoices of single expenses over GBP300. High-resolution photos and video footage of the training event can be submitted via filesharing services; for details on these materials, please contact katherine.hermans@britishcouncil.org.
We want to be able to measure the impact of the training events. To this end you are expected to evaluate the event, e.g. by means of a feedback questionnaire, and share the results of your evaluation with us. If you have any questions about Monitoring and Evaluation, please contact matt.kimmich@britishcouncil.org.
