Climate Champions reception [or mini LACYS reunion]

The British Council Colombia held between the 22 and 24th of March the Creative Entrepreneurs workshop for the winners of the call ”Climate Generation 2011″. It aimed to empower a group of young people with positive initiatives in environmental fields that  promoted wellbeing within their communities. As part of the prize, the winners were invited to participate in this workshop to enhance their skills in project management, entrepreneurship and state funding opportunities. The workshop was conducted by PRANA, Incubator of Cultural and Creative Industries in Colombia, and was given to 21 Climate Champions from Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.

Among this entrepreneurs, the workshop counted with the presence and work of our very own Global Changemakers featuring Carolina Figueroa and Sadiq Miah! Both of them made us proud with their talks on photography as a call to action and the media school Future Voices International, respectively.

As a very exciting and important closure for the Climate Generation program, the Ambassador from the United Kingdom to Colombia, John Dew, welcomed different representatives of important environmental organizations, 21 Climate Champions, some representatives of the British Council’s staff and some Global Changemakers to a reception at his place to support and celebrate the initiatives of these young people.

The reception was not only a great experience and an awesome mini Latin American and Caribbean Youth Summit reunion for Maria Angélica Botero, Sadiq Miah, Olga Lucía Mendoza and me, but also a great opportunity for new partnerships to emerge and new synergies to be produced:

Sadiq, with Future Voices International, for example, was invited to The Galapagos in june-july to run his media school along with a Climate Champion that is developing an environmental project that aims to generate awareness about climate change, reduce its impact and modify future generations’ habits in the islands. Also, I was invited by the Green Ethnicity Foundation to Tumaco, to participate with Global Warning Agency in the celebration of the International Earth Day creating photographic and audiovisual productions for the 2nd Climate Change forum of the Pacific Coast of Colombia, the cleaning celebration of the mangrove area and some traditional and environmental games at the Morro Beaches.

That’s it for now guys, just wanted to keep you posted on what has been happening in this side of the globe!

Cheers : )
