The Warmth of our Hands

There is a huge gap between two generations in Russia. On one hand, there are the young people who are considered to behave impolitely and seem to only be interested in the internet, TV and parties. The veterans, on the other hand, are stereotypically thought to be grandfathers and grandmothers telling boring stories from the past and teaching youngsters how to lead their lives. However, it is important not to lose that unique opportunity to communicate and learn more about the experience of elderly people who knew life during World War II.

The CAP The Warmth of our Hands plans to involve young people aged 12-16 into knitting various articles (as Russia used to have a strong tradition of knitting) and to present these articles as gifts to elderly people at a concert. In return, the youngsters will have the pleasure to listen to stories about the times of war. At the concert itself, children from several Volgograd youth clubs and young musicians will be performing.

To sum up, The Warmth of our Hands aims:
• To break down the wall that exists between the generations.
• To provide young people with the opportunity to learn the history of their country.
• To give elderly people a chance to socialize and share their unique experience with the youth.
• To teach young people how to knit.
