DESCRIPTION

Global Forum 40 (GF40) is a new unique initiative led by young people for young people, where we share the values and desires to equip those of our younger generation with the information, knowledge, resources and skills on issues like HIV/AIDS. We aim to create a self-sustaining model of peer-facilitated learning; creating the opportunity for young people to become key actors, in such a major social issue around the world. Acting as a bridge between local traditions and communities and new ideas and practices, young people become leaders in society, empowered by our scheme to create real, tangible and lasting social change in the field of HIV/AIDS.

AIMS

  • A world where access to sexual health and HIV/AIDS information and care is equal and universal for young people.
  • To enable all young people to make informed choices about their sexual relationships so that they can enjoy their sexuality without fear, discrimination, risk or harm.
  • Empower every young person by creating an awareness of Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS, through a new youth led educative system designed and created by young people.
  • To lead on consultations with young people and political figures to create new youth policies on the ever growing struggle with HIV/AIDS, as well as to join the global campaign alongside other HIV/AIDS organizations to eradicate the stigma and discrimination that plagues this issue.

Our Values

  • Ambitious: We believe we can work with communities and young people to help change their lives. We shall ensure this happens by continuing to push our limits to the highest.
  • Honest: We as a team will be accountable to young people within our communities, our donors and funders. We shall work with integrity, transparency and efficiency. We will also communicate clearly (translations when required) and responsibly.
  • Different: As a youth led organisation we are truly unique. We support, respect and value one another, working in a professional manner, without prejudice or discrimination, united by a common cause.

ACTIVITIES

The GF40 Workshop to be held from the 7th October to the 10th as part of San Patrignano's WeFree Day, bringing together 10 young people from across Europe for a specialised introduction to sexual reproductive health led by the Terrance Higgins Trust, plus Dr. Antonio Boschini one of Europe's most highly respected doctors specialised in HIV and Hepatitis C - the event will also see the full launch of GF40 as a registered NGO. Global Forum 40 presents Francesca Martinez and Comedy Friends for One Night Only! - A hair raising performance of some of the finest comedians Britain has to offer with a special guest performance from a No.1 chart selling artist all on World AIDS Day 2010.

OUTCOMES

This CAP is in its intial phase, however we hope GF40 tackles issues relating to sexual health and HI V, by getting to the root of the problem and then providing solutions and answers to combat these problems, mainly through creating and developing peer led educative programmes, campaigns and interactive tools.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Were also working hard on the development of our iPhone application with O2 called iKnow, which will equip young people from the West with the required information, knowledge, skills and interactive resources, to lead a healthy sexual lifestyle free from HIV and sexually transmitted infections. As well as working hard with our partners in America & South Africa, to develop the foundations to a global campaign, calling upon Governments around the world for universal access to comprehensive sex education.
