Change in Focus

DESCRIPTION

Change in Focus strives to create a platform for effective communication between the policy makers and the young people. The CAP will attempt to engage with Amnesty International to further develop this project within the region.

AIMS

• Increase knowledge of Human Rights within Schools and youth organizations

• Promote equality in citizenship within Zimbabwe

• Increase skills in areas of public speaking, research and Human Rights Law.

"Human rights education is much more than a lesson in schools or a theme for a day; it is a process to equip people with the tools they need to live lives of security and dignity. On this International Human Rights Day, let us continue to work together to develop and nurture in future generations a culture of human rights, to promote freedom, security and peace in all nations." Kofi Annan

ACTIVITIES

I will produce a CD, recording children speaking about their views on human rights, and use it as an advocacy and awareness tool in schools, with the general public and with key decision-makers. Further to this we shall have public speaking competitions in schools to help the children research on Human Rights Issues. The project shall also conduct public meetings for the young people with the Youth Press Bureau and youth public meeting in community centers around the city of Bulawayo.

OUTCOMES

By the end of the project I hope to have made the young people aware of their Human Rights as citizens of Zimbabwe. The project hopes to deliver their findings to the Parliament of Zimbabwe and so if our impact is felt, surely the Parliament will address the issues of Human Rights Violations.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Change in Focus wants to produce several hundred CDs for distribution, with the potential for online access as well.
