Traveller’s blog no 9 - Seraj

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen.

First, I would like to thank the British Council for putting all this together, I stand with honor for the Holy work that you are doing, our world today needs to work together... break the barriers between the countries and communities. The British Council is definitely a leader in its field.

So... if we want to take tackle the world's problems we need to act as a global community.

Also many thanks for the Lord Mayor of the city of London, Big thanks for you sir on behalf of all the youths, actually on behalf of the entire world, because a green city is the perfect place for everyone to live in.

At the International student summit 2007, The mayor of London, Mr. Ken Livingston, said "The key thing is that we don't need any new technology, we are not waiting for any new invention to actually tackle climate change, all that is required is a political will for the national and regional Government to push this through, then for the public to start living their life differently."

You're probably wondering what this has got to do with greening cities??

Imagine if every single city all over the world was a green city! (Knowing that 75% of green house emissions is produced by cities.) Do you think climate change will appear?

Close your eyes for few seconds; imagine if all the cities were 100% green and eco, take three seconds 1... 2... 3... Amazing isn't it?

For me, being the environmental coordinator for the Libyan German Friendship Association changed my life in every prospect.

As said, I was part of the international student summit 2007, it was the best experiment in my whole life, I learned so much in so little time, the whole program was well organized, before I went there I thought I was expert youth in environmental issues, but after coming back I realized I still have much to learn.

After coming back, two things I learned there shocked me...

First that we need to act now! And plan a green city since Libya is going through a big changing processes. Second, that 68.3% of the young delegates refused to vote for a party if it has a weak reputation on tackling climate change. Bottom line the summit was a big hit!! It really made a strong impact on me and on every single participant.

This is not my own words. This is the words of all the summit delegates from 20 different countries, cultures, religions and all. I'm sure that the new mayor of London will keep on the same track Mr. Ken Livingston took towards a greener city. I also hope that you sir believe in the power of youth of achieving things, I have a really great plans myself for the next ISS, but those can never be put into action until we get the support, so Sir I hope that you will keep fighting towards a greener world.

Last but not least, I want to ask the people in charge of the construction processes in Libya to make it as green as possible. I hope my voice will be heard, and my message will pass through.

Thank you everybody.

So guys that's what I was up to in the past few days, some of you asked me what was my activism like - and that's it. All the pictures will be posted over facebook; if not, if the training I had in the Road to Davos, im sure that no one would've clapped to me, and if you were wondering how good was i? I was the only person who the Lord mayor of the city of London clapped to, then all of them did. Can you believe it?? I was the only one who got clapped to? So at last I want to thank Yunan coz I used his word.

PS: all pic's will be over facebook.
