Meet a Changemaker (12)

| Share

Dear Global Changemakers:

Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Seraj and I was one of the lucky 60 people who got the chance to be a part of Guilford 2008, a part of this community, and of this global family.

I'm sure, just as it has happened to us, which is the same for you guys "Guilford 2009". Every single one of you has this strong and special bond and I know that life gets very busy but please try to find five minutes of your time to get online, click on some buttons, open the GCM website and keep in touch.

Now let me talk a bit about what I do. Here in Libya we are working and sponsored by our local British Council to set up The Libyan Climate Change Group. It’s a group of volunteers composed of Libya’s youth. Our latest project was 10 days ago where we delivered a presentation about climate in the two biggest cities in Libya, "Climate change and its effect on every day life". We then gave it to school children, And what really amazed me that these school kids were really surprised about what they saw even for very simple things i.e. how harmful plastic bags are to the environment or why leaving the light on in our houses increase the Co2 emissions ETC there was also a group called “Science Made Simple.” It is composed of two scientists that we were able to bring from the UK based on the goals of our 1 year financial plan agreement.  Where they set up a very interesting experiments about the use of the different kind of fossil fuels and its different effect on our surrounding environment.

Why do I take a strong interest in environmental problems and climate change to be specific? Because I think that most, if not all, of the world’s problems are linked to it in one way or the other….

Once again, before I close this up, I would like to please ask you to spare few moments of your time every few days to get online and keep in touch with each other. I know we all prefer the use of facebook, including me raspberry, but you can never gather and save all of the information about your CAP's and make sure it wont be lost….

All the best,
Seraj
