General, Economy, G-20 London Summit 2009
In late March/early April, Global Changemakers is bringing a number of Global Changemakers to London for the G-20 summit hosted by Gordon Brown. The London Summit will mainly address the current economic crisis.
Obviously we will have more information on our engagement with the event very soon. For now, though, the BBC is looking for comments, asking: What can governments do? Here's what they write:
World leaders are meeting in London next month to discuss plans to tackle the current economic crisis. What do you think are the most pressing issues facing the world's economy?
The G-20 is a group of the world's most powerful countries that together represent 85% of the world's economy.
Some of the options the leaders may discuss include further interest rate cuts and government spending, stronger international regulation of banks and financial institutions, and preventing a slide towards protectionism.
What do you think is the most important thing governments can do? How can the interests of both big and small nations be taken into account? How have you been personally affected by the economic crisis?
Check out the discussion on the BBC website and join in!

Hello Matt, how are you doing? I am just wondering what is the selection process and criteria for the Global Changemakers who will participate in London Summit?
10 March 2009
Hey Karapet,
How are you doing?
For the London event we looked at the list of existing Global Changemakers from the G-20 countries, talked to the offices and co-ordinators in those countries and came up with a list of options. In some cases/countries, we had to find new Changemakers since there hadn’t been any previous participants.
From the beginning it was only the G-20 countries that were to be involved in this specific event, which obviously narrowed down the choice.
Let me know if you’d like to have more details!

Hey Matt, I am doing good, just little bit busy with some exams.
I now got the overall idea of bringing some Changemakers to London Summit, so Thank you very much Matt.
Take Care,
With Warm Regards,
Karapet.

Hey Matt! Whats up?
That’s so exciting!! Just wanna ask if Global Changemakers from China will be invited to London?
Thanks and take care!

Hey Leo,
Thanks a lot for your message. We will indeed have a Global Changemaker from China attending the London event. In this case Yunan, one of last year’s Guildford group, was chosen. Since we had very little time to find the participants, we didn’t do an application process as with Guildford - for other events we are planning to do so, though.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey Matt!
Thank you for your reply. I actually sent Gaby an email asking similar questions I posted here and got her reply very quickly. :D
I’m very proud of Yunan! He’s such an outstanding guy that I surely believe he will be a terrific delegate of Chinese young people on the G20 Summit!
And thanks again to British Council for providing us with the chance to Jordan! I bet a lot of changemakers are busy filling out the application forms right now!
:D

Hi Aashish
I’m sure you’re right - I was just answering on behalf of East (not South) Asia! Sorry if I caused any confusion!
Good luck!
