A good protection of the environment is a sum. A sum of many, many little actions: Buying a very ecologically-friendly car instead of a “normal” (I’ll come back to that) one, flying once less, eating less meat and others like these. If some few people have an ecological footprint of 1.0 or less, this doesn’t help enough. In order to get a relevant sum of this little nature-considering actions, all the members of our global society, especially the citizens of industrial countries, have to participate.
This can only happen if an eco-friendly act does no longer remain something exceptional, like a special good deed. Environmentalism should become as natural as brushing your teeth two or three times a day, it has to become a part of our culture, an element of public consciousness. When talking about cars in some years, the environmentally acceptable should be considered as the “normal”, standard one. Flying CO2-neutral should no longer be a peculiarity of some very kindly hearted individuals, but the way the average consumer acts.
To make the protection of environment a part of our culture, it has to lose its reputation of being a burden. Everyone should be informed about the chances and especially the economical and quality of life-related benefit of good climate policies. Ideally, people live this process not only as single individuals, but as a community. Climate issues are like no other a question of community, because every ton of CO2 your neighbour, be it your private neighbour, your neighbour company or your neighbour state, emits, affects you the same.
To amplify the eco-friendly culture, good networking is essential. There are to be good platforms to exchange about this subject.
We want do to do our bit with greenings.ch, an interactive calendar with networking tools. As an organizer of a greening, an event with ecological contents, you can post it on the website. Other members of the network can subscribe for your event, comment it and contact people they have met at this event, everything works through facebook. Experiencing a greening as an interesting social event contributes to the integration of green thoughts into our everyday life culture.
We are, like many others, convinced that a key step on the way toward an ecologically sustainable society is awareness raising.

“To make the protection of environment a part of our culture, it has to lose its reputation of being a burden. “
Exactly. It makes me excited to see environmental projects that aim at making ‘environmentalism’ less of a burden for people - so I’m looking forward to checking out this website when it’s up!
